Rebecca Slivinsky presents her painting M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition, RECLAMATION, at The Drawing Room Gallery at The Lodge. (115 W. 42nd St. Savannah, GA 31401). Slivinsky questions an ideal standard of beauty that is forced upon women within western culture. One might believe there is nothing new to say about this problem of objectified sexy bodies in ink and pixels as ubiquitous as the salesman’s saliva that drives our capitalistic society, but Slivinsky re-awakens this topic with rich and compelling aesthetics. With a mopping-the-floor athleticism, Slivinsky strips ink from found images with cleaning solution. She purchases magazines and manipulates found images of women by using cleaning products in a way that invites examination of the way women are portrayed and perceived and in doing so reclaims the image of the woman. The afterimage of this exhibition invites a psychological athleticism that resets our orientation toward problem imagery.
The Opening Reception is May 3 from 6-9 pm
