Exhibition: We’re Not in Kansas Anymore | 5.27.2016 | 5-8pm | Lee O’Neil Gallery | Savannah, GA


The works of Justin Armstrong, Emily Parnell, Jiyeon Pereira will be featured in the exhibition WE’RE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE at the Lee O’Neil Gallery from May 27 until May 31st, 2016. An opening reception will be on May 27 from 5 – 8 pm. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

WE’RE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE is an exhibition of work by Justin Armstrong, Emily Parnell and Jiyeon Pereira. Through humor their work highlights the range of possibilities in representational painting. Armstrong utilizes unusual materials and pop culture icons to create absurd encounters and settings. Parnell’s work explores narratives within the genre of science fiction. Through color and motion, Pereira’s work focuses on the concept of identity and the connection between herself and others.

Justin Armstrong (b. 1988, Birmingham, Alabama) is receiving a B.F.A. in Painting from Savannah College of Art & Design in June of 2016. Armstrong’s paintings combine humor with a dynamic range of non-objective and representational compositions. He derives each painting’s content from a careful selection of materials found in retail and online stores, as well as printed material with diverse cultural significance. He currently lives and works in Savannah, Georgia.

Emily Parnell (AKA Emily Rudolph, b. 1993, United States) is receiving a B.F.A.

in Painting from the Savannah College of Art & Design in June 2016. She has exhibited

her works in several group exhibitions, such as the Bridge exhibition (2014) and a

drawing works show, Too Many Legs Under the Table (2013), both located in

Savannah, GA. Currently, Parnell resides in Savannah, GA and is producing new work.

Parnell plans on relocating to Brisbane, Australia.

Jiyeon Pereira (b. 1968, South Korea) is receiving a B.F.A. in Painting with

minors in Art History and Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design,

Savannah, GA and will graduate in the spring of 2017. Her work is centered on identity.

She explores one’s identity and their passion through symbols by using vivid color,

motion, and glazing techniques. Her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions in

Duncan, OK, as well as Alexander Gallery and Gutstein Gallery in Savannah, GA. She

is currently making several new works, and will be exhibiting in Savannah, GA.
