ORLY GENGER
The exhibition also showcases two vertically oriented rope sculptures that reference the “stack” sculptures of minimalist artist Donald Judd. Additionally, it features smaller cast sculptures and works on paper that mirror the physicality and textures of the sculptural forms. Viewers will revel in the massive forms realized through intricate and repetitive handwork.
Genger’s most recent rope installation, “Red, Yellow, Blue” (2013), spanned the breadth of New York City’s Madison Square Park, where 50 tons of rope were stacked into massive rising and falling forms. Genger’s work is rooted in traditional crafts of knitting and crochet, but the scale and physical presence of her work have drawn comparisons to Richard Serra and Robert Smithson, celebrated American artists known for vast land art and large-scale sheet metal sculptures.
Reception: Friday, June 27, time TBA
The exhibition and reception are free for all SCAD students, faculty, staff and museum members and open to the public with the cost of museum admission.
